Hi, my name is Erika and I’m from Mexico , I went to Nanaimo , B.C. with AD ASTRA Company. I went to study there, in 11th grade, it was a pretty big school, but I liked it because I met quite a few students, International and Canadians. They were really nice and I had a lot of fun. My host-family, wow! They were so nice, I miss them a lot. I think that it was a good experience, because I learn a lot and I got confidence in myself to talk with other people in English. I’m so glad I went, first of all, the people from ADASTRA were really nice, helping me on whatever I needed and then in school there, everyone helped me. I liked Nanaimo , because is really pretty and is a safe place to be and the weather was really nice, a little bit cold but when it snowed it was incredible.

Stephano Dubineau

Student from Cancún, Q.R.

(15 years old)

Hi, my name is Stephano Dubineau, I am 15 years old, and would like to share my experience in Canada.

I truly had an incredible time, I think it was one of the best times in my life; I met people from many parts of the world and I seriously recommend this camp, you will not be bored.

When I arrived I was a little frightened but the next morning the good thing started; we did everything (river rafting, paintball, excursions, sopping, activities in and out of the camp, museums, nights out, disco night, casino night, etc.), and many other things.

School was also fun because you learn a lot while having fun, I truly recommend this a lot, to be honest I arrived and wanted to leave right away, but after a few hours I wanted to stay there for ever. I was there about a month and there wasn’t a day when I had a bad time.

Facilities are also quite cool, they have: semi-Olympic pool, basketball courts, green fields, ping pong, computer lab, parks, etc.

If you think of going have no doubts, go and have fun; I assure you will not have a bad time at all.

Krista Becker

Student from Mexico City

(16 years old)

Is now on 9° grade in High School in the Miramichi International Student Program, New Brunwick, she shared her experience after being studying three months in Canada.

Coming to Canada for a year, has been a great experience so far. I never thought I could be able to leave my family and friends, and go to another country to live completely different things from the things I use to do back home. Al though the change of language and routine sounded great, I didn’t think that being with a different family for a whole year could be this great.

My “host-family” has treated me excellent; I really felt at home since the first day. They are different in many ways, but very similar to my family in others. They really value the time that the family spends together, and that’s a thing that I enjoy.

Going to a new school, with different people has been really fun and it has given me the opportunity to know new people, make new friends, and learn things in a different way.

I thought that speaking the language was going to be even worse, but the truth is that everyone is so kind that I just go ahead and speak; nobody cares that my accent is not perfect. They always try to help.

I have learned so many things in a very short period of time, and I'm very happy about that. It’s been only 3 months and I feel I’ve had a lifetime of experiences.

Every kid in the world should be able to have an experience like this.

I found a great way to organize my time in terms of homework, classes, projects and exams. I have made really goods friends in the college too, and the most important thing: I have had the time of my life in the college my Business Management course!

Ileana Medina

Student from Chetumal, Q.R. (16 years old)

She has been studying in Nova Scotia International Student Program and she is really happy, she shire her experience:

I can’t imagine that I’m now in Canada, I have been here for almost 3 months and it feels like it has been yesterday that I arrived.

The time is going so fast. Staying here is a great experience, because you are learning something different, for example; ways of thinking and different cultures every moment.

In Fact Ad Astra has excellent programs from international students and everything is well organized.

My host family is very nice. My host brother is 11 years old and he is always doing funny things. And I have a host sister from Germany, who is 17 years old. That’s good because we are 2 teenagers at home that share similar interests.

In the Evening I take gymnastics and gym. Taking extracurricular activities is also a good way to find friends. So now I’m always busy. It’s really a good experience, and this is what I think after I have been here for only 3 months - 7 more months to enjoy it!

We have a lot of meetings and trips around Nova Scotia with all the other international students from different towns, so we can meet each other frequently, and spend a lot of time together, sharing new experiences.

My school is huge. The first couple of days I got lost because there were a lot of classrooms and I just didn’t find mine.

Guillermo Morán

Student from León, Gto.

(17 years old)

Guillermo studied in Nova Scotia International Student Program he lived experiences that  never  had realized before in León :.

During 10 months, I had the experience of living in the province of  Nova Scotia Canada. There, I realized activities that I could never realize in my home country, things that might be unusual in some parts of the world, but there are every day things, such as the lobster fishing, that in Nova Scotia is an important economic activity and an unforgettable experience snow skiing that is also very fun. Also a wonderful experience is to get to know not one but rather several cultures from all over the world, to make and maintain friendship in the other side of the world and of course, learning the English language. It is some thing that I would definitively do again!.

Daniela Ramirez

Student from León, Gto.

(17 years old)

Daniela studied in Class Afloat she had theopportunity to live a fantastic experience in Lunenburg  :.

My stay in Lunenburg was really wonderful; each activity that we realized, each walk, each talk, each moment was particularly Amazing! Unfortunately everything has and end, but as it is in life, each end is only a new beginning…and now, the real adventure is yet to start. There are many things I will miss, The Academy, the town people, the coffee shops, our voluntaries’, our meetings room, the kitchen club Foodland, even the cold wind each morning going up the mountain to school, but more than any thing, I will miss my teachers, who could not make it better to make us happy in this experience of life change, since they were always there when we needed them with their knowledge and great sense of humor. In a few words, this small city has made us learn countless lessons about life and its great value. Thank you for this incredible time!.
